Why?

Our project aims to kickstart a robust and efficient supply chain for thermoelectrics in Europe. This involves not only delivering solutions for more accessible and sustainable materials and scaling them up for industry, but also actively supporting the restructuring of the EU thermoelectric industry to boost its visibility among potential end-users. We already hosted a successful workshop in Copenhagen in September 2024. This year, we’re building on that momentum by fostering even greater cohesion between academic research and European industry on this crucial topic.

To achieve this, we’ve partnered with the organizers of ECT 2025, the 21st European Conference on Thermoelectrics, taking place in Nancy, France from September 8th to 12th, 2025. A session will be dedicated to a workshop that we have titled “How to take TE to the market by academia-industry collaboration?

What?

The session is set for Tuesday afternoon from 15:15 to 17:00, featuring seven speakers and concluding with a final roundtable discussion. Our speakers and their presentation titles are:

  • Hao Yin, TEGnology ApS: “Needs and Challenges in Reshaping TEG Supply-Chain in EU”
  • Aniruddha Ray, RGS Development: “Thermoelectric Modules and Applications: An Industrial Perspective”
  • Kornelius Nielsch, IFW Dresden: “Durable and Sustainable Thermoelectric Devices Made from Zinc- and Magnesium-Antimony Alloys”
  • Vicente Pacheco, Fraunhofer IFAM Dresden: “Towards Industrial Production of High-Temperature Thermoelectric Modules”
  • Frédéric Lani, Thermopowersystems: “How to Successfully Transfer Thermoelectric Technology from Academia to Industry? The Case of Thermo Power Systems.”
  • Filipe Neves, LNEG: “Driving Thermoelectric Innovation Through Research-Industry Collaboration”
  • Marisol Martin Gonzalez, CSIC: “Bridging Nanoscale Thermoelectrics and Triboelectrics: From Lab-Scale Innovations to Prototypes”

The pitches will be short, to leave time for a round table of about 50′, where the speakers will further develop their concepts towards viable solutions to the question raised in the title of the workshop.

You can find the full ECT technical program details on the ECT2025 website.

Where?

As explained, we are hosted inside the 21st European Conference on Thermoelectrics, that is organised this year in Nancy (France), from 8th to 12th September 2025. It is the main European event on thermoelectrics, and START already took part in the latest editions. You will find also a booth about the project where you will be able to get more information on our work and perspectives.

How?

Being hosted inside a conference, the workshop is only for registered participants to the ECT 2025. To register, you need to consult and agree to the conditions on their website, and pay the relevant fee. There is no added fee nor discount in relation to the workshop itself

If you are in Nancy for ECT2025, join our session and help us reshape thermoelectrics in Europe!
